(headquarters in Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; CEO Daiu Ko, hereafter “Kudan”) is proud to announce that Intel released its latest Intel Edge Insight for Autonomous Mobile Robots, its software platform targeting the AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) application, including Kudan Visual SLAM (KdVisual) as its Visual SLAM software of choice for commercial usage. Kudan Visual SLAM combined with Intel EI for AMR enables AMR OEMs and its developers to build robust and reliable AMRs for the most demanding jobs more quickly and efficiently without sacrificing accuracy and performance.

The Intel Edge Insight (EI) for AMRs is an open, modular Software Development Kit (SDK) that includes libraries, middleware, and sample applications to accelerate the development and deployment of AMR hardware and software solutions for any compute architecture that best fits the need of your application (i.e. “XPUs”). Intel EI for AMR helps cut down development time by enabling code to be implemented once and deployed to multiple hardware configurations. SLAM provides spatial awareness to machines and plays a critical role in “Mapping and planning” functionalities. As a strategic technology partner, Kudan’s KdVisual is for projects requiring commercial-grade SLAM that is robust, flexible, and performant for a wide range of environments and applications.

KdVisual will be accessible on Intel Edge Software Hub for developers to use for their AMR once the development or commercial license agreement with Kudan is in place. A 30-day trial is offered as well with support from Intel and Kudan for initial validation.

The release of KdVisual as part of EI for AMRs is the culmination of the ongoing collaboration between Intel and Kudan. These joint development projects over the last 2 years have led to extending KdVisual performance by hardware-accelerating optimizations of Kudan’s SLAM algorithm on Intel XPUs (e.g. 11th generation Intel Core or 3rd gen Intel Xeon Scalable and beyond processors), and furthers Kudan’s unmatched SLAM performance in speed, accuracy, and reliability. The highlights are the following.

Hardware acceleration on Intel XPU to deliver unparalleled SLAM performance with stereo and depth (RGB-D) cameras on ROS2 platform

Fundamental performance advantage compared to other 2D and Visual SLAM. Significant lower CPU usage from hardware acceleration, and removes the processing power requirement barrier

Increased robustness and reliability in challenging situations than other 2D and Visual SLAM. It can survive even when up to 95% of the mapped scenery changes

Integration with Intel EI for AMR for rapid integration and time-to-market than in-house development and other external SLAM software

Juan Wee, Chief Operating Officer, Kudan USA commented that “This is one of those rare instances where the right technology partners align to create a market leading technology solution for AMRs, that enhances the experience for its customers. I look forward to working with our partners and customers with Kudan’s Intel XPU-accelerated Visual SLAM software and Edge Insights for Autonomous Mobile Robot SDK.”

Jonathan Luse, Senior Director of Federal & Industrial Solutions Management at Intel commented that “Adoption of AMRs has been changing operations and improving business outcomes across many industries like Manufacturing and Retail. Kudan offers the SLAM algorithms and Intel brings the compute performance needed for AMRs. When you bring these pre-validated solutions together, it helps customers bring their AMRs to market."

As we continue our work with Intel, we look forward to broadening the scope and impact of our collaboration through the network of both companies, especially for AMR applications.

We will share more details in the coming weeks about this collaboration.

※Intel, the Intel logo, and other Intel marks are trademarks of Intel Corporation or its subsidiaries.

About Kudan Inc.
Kudan　is a deep tech research and development company specializing in algorithms for artificial perception (AP).
